DANGEROUS WORLDVIEWS -Secularism

Secularism World View

1. Is there a God? What is He like? There is no God, no divine being. Matter, in one form or another, is all that has existed from eternity and all that will ever exist.
2.What is the nature of the universe? It is filled with matter and matter only. The world and universe were formed through the gradual and random processes of evolution.
3. What is the essential nature of man? Humanity is by nature monistic (a oneness) in that the person consists of only one substance: matter. Humanity represents the highest point of the gradual and random processes of evolution.

4. What is the cause of evil and suffering? Humanity depending on the escapist promise of religion, rather than facing problems squarely and believing that humankind has the potential to create a world in which peace and justice will prevail.
5. The basis of morality and ethics? Man's reason and thought. Extending scientific method of rational inquiry into all aspects of life, while at the same time maintaining a sense of compassion for the individual.
6. Life after death? There is no survival of the person's consciousness after death.
7. History? A story of facing his problems with reason or becoming lost in the illusions of belief and faith.
